The Hobart Filler Metal Selector and Calculator is a FREE quick reference tool with a number of functions. These functions include:
Filler Metal Selector for:
Aluminum
Carbon Steel
Stainless Steel
Heat input calculator
Hardfacing Product Cross Reference
Filler Metal Volume Calculator

The filler metal volume calculator answers the question “How much filler metal will I need to purchase for this weld?”. To determine the volume of metal you may need to purchase to complete a specific weld joint, weld size, and weld length using either Standard (SAE) or Metric units, you select the weld joint and enter the needed dimensions of the weld size you will deposit. The next screen asks for your total length, process type, and arc transfer mode to determine the approximate amount of filler metal you would need to purchase for that weld. The volume calculator works for Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Carbon Steel FCAW and GMAW applications.

This tool will also help you determine the best filler metal for joining Carbon steels, Aluminum, and Stainless Steels and will recommend the appropriate filler metal for SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, and GTAW. Additionally, it has a Product cross reference for Hardfacing applications.

This tool functions without a data connection until you want to review a specific recommended filler metal data sheet for that filler metal to determine the best weld settings. The filler metal selectors use the base metals to determine the best options for the filler metal choice and will recommend specific Hobart products with a link directly to those product pages. The filler metal results will also list the appropriate American Welding Society (AWS) Classification for the recommended filler metals. For the Aluminum and Stainless Steel selectors you can choose dissimilar base metals. For example, welding 308L to 316L Stainless Steel or 5083 to 6061 Aluminum to determine the best filler metal choice to join those base metals together.
